This years Virtual Gallery is fueled with fire. Over time depending on who shared the stories & their intentions of controlling beliefs & communities, ancestor reverence and the ancient deities, diwatas & anitos become demonized and reduced to negative connotations of things "pagan, " "savage," "evil" or of "the devil." The diwatas & ancestor anitos were replaced / hidden with worshiping saints, Virgin marys and one god. Honoring our deceased ancestors & paying respects to spirit continue today with practices such as Araw ng Patay, Undas, Kalag Kalag & more. Nicanor Evangelista Jr. created a series of images that reminds and gives inspiration for deep seeking about where we came from and the healing of our Ancestors. The Day of the Dead we give respect and honor to our family and love ones those who are in the afterlife. The inspiration are bits and pieces that the ancestors have left for us, things that reminds us about their practice and beliefs when it comes to death and the journey in the afterlife. Marks of Light Why do we put marks on our skin? Our Ancestors believe that when a person dies, in the afterlife the marks are a light that guides our ancestors to recognize and see us. These sacred marks in our body are created by rituals of batuk,watuk,patik,watik,watu,tatu or tattoo that honors our ancestors. Spirit Boat After being recognized by our ancestors, the canoe is where we journey towards the place of our families and love ones in the after life. Free Ancestors Happiness A symbol of respect and healing for the ancestors, I combined the Bolinao skull that wears the Oton death mask inside of a Manunggul jar. These are pieces that the ancestors have left for us that reminds us about their practice and beliefs when it comes to death and the journey in the afterlife. Bolinao skull- 67 skulls of the ancestors dated from the late 14th and 15th A.D. Found in Bolinao, Pangasinan. Oton gold death mask- A golden mask is placed on the face of the deceased serving as an amulet against evil spirits, dated from the late 14th and 15th A.D. Found in San Antonio, Oton, Iloilo. Manunggul burial jar- 2nd burial jar to store bones, dated late Neolithic period 890-710 BC, found in Manunggul Cave, Lipuun Point, Palawan. The Skulls Why is that the symbol of the skulls are feared and being related and attached to Evil? The skulls are symbols of our ancestors in the afterlife, It is a symbol of the warriors and heroes who died fighting for our freedom. May these skulls become symbols of good and respect for our ancestors. House of the Soul This House is a symbol where the souls of our ancestors reside when they visit. Here we can place our food offerings and charge our talismans.

SAGRADONG PYRAMID This installation piece is part of a series of Decolonizing Chambers that we are building to create liminal spaces to stimulate creativity, healing and connections to each other. Using each point of this tetrahedron shape as a symbolic representation of that inter-connectivity, the structure is also fulcrum to access meditative states and awareness especially when transformed as a space where performance, rituals and workshops occurs. As a community it is important to remember that Trust is a cardinal force that is essential and we want to evoke that in the structure. As people of color who come from different backgrounds with many different trauma from colonization and its byproducts, we heal the fastest in a state of Trust. We are tapping into those qualities necessary to create a healing space for all of us and trust that we can access these states through our cooperation and efforts as a whole. Trust being a cardinal creative force in the universe is a quality that we want to evoke with the Sagradong Pyramid. Trust that we can resurrect the spirits of our ancestors. Trust that we can find those forces within ourselves that will eventually transform our communities. We heal fastest in a state of Trust, and by using each point of its basic shape as a symbolic representation of our interconnectivity, we are tapping into the co-efficiency that is necessary to create that healing space. We TRUST that we can access it through our contributions and teamwork efforts. We aim to unify and strengthen community ties and develop more connections via collaboration and dialogue. As artists, we would like to use our experience and love of art by inviting participants to honor ancestors in a simple action that will collectively generate the kind of solidarity we need to recover ourselves and each other -through the act of tying a rope around the Sagradong Pyramid to help strengthen it . Each piece of rope will come with a small wooden tag where people can write the names of ancestors whose memories they would like to honor using bamboo dip pens and ink made by the artists.

Sagradong Pyramid The interactive art structure we are building will invite or even dare passersby's to join in transforming the space where it will be installed at. The sounds and noises made from found scraps and repurposed junk from Historic Filipinotown will provide a musical jolt to convert any desolate space into a bath of sounds and vibrations. This can also function as a sculptural ornamentation for events and festivals activating play, fun and wonder to something in which ritual meaning and healing are the focal point. Using each point of this basic shape as a symbolic representations of our interconnectivity, the structure can also be a fulcrum to access meditative states and awareness. Trust being a cardinal creative force in the universe is also a quality that we want to evoke in building this structure. We heal the fastest in a state of Trust, and by manifesting these qualities in geometric form, we are tapping into the co-efficiency that is necessary to create that healing space. We TRUST that we can access it through our contribution and teamwork efforts. The basic structure is made from PVC Pipes which are connected together with industrial cable ties. The materials has a lot to do with making the whole structure mobile and easy to transport. Setting up the structure begins with making sure all the end points of the six pipes are connected together to form a tetrahedron. Once the ends are connected, they will be secured with some metal pieces to hold the corners together and reinforced with several tension wires that go through a hole in each pole. The structure will be decorated with palm leaves and fabric to conceal the original materials that it is made of. It can have different variations depending on who will be involved in setting it up. At night time, the structure will have back projections of various images and videos and artists can play musical accompaniment using the structure and other sound-making devices connected to it. By building the structure, we aim to unify and strengthen community ties and develop more connections via collaboration. As artists, we would like to use our experience and love of art to open a dialogue, and bring awareness and reflection. We are always seeking like-minded individuals and helping hands from the community who would like to help make projects like these happen and anyone who believes in the power of art as a vessel for hope, beauty and life.

People of Coloring aims to promote multi-cultural visibility, awareness and acceptance to youth and adults through conscious coloring books. We address the need to start conversations about race, culture, ethnicity and gender identity earlier in life. As we enhance the dialogue of common and shared experiences among diverse peoples of color, we hope to dissect stereotypes and dissolve barriers by which society divides. By working with artists who create with and for the community, we capture the cultural and socio-political climates in the places and times we live. We might not solve the world's problems, but we may create more conscious kids of color. People of Coloring - it’s not a race. About The Program For the Kid's Pavilion at FPAC this year, People Of Coloring will provide children and adults with illustrations and booklets to practice Conscious Coloring. This activity encourages participants to engage with artistic expression, ask critical questions, share stories and spark important conversations centered on diversity and challenging social norms in every-day encounters. Families can come together in a safe and fun environment to share stories, color, and discuss topics invoked by the illustrations of this year's coloring book. People Of Coloring dedicates a Filipino Edition for this year's festival, which features illustrations and information provided by participating artists. Meet the Artists!
